Tools for Teaching is a 3 day workshop that combines all the facets of Discipline, Instruction and Motivation into a complete classroom management system.

Topics include:

  • Using mobility and proximity to prevent problems
  • Replacing helpless handraisers with time on task
  • Replacing time wasting with time on task
  • Improving work habits
  • Raising standards while reducing stress
  • Setting limits in a calm, non adversarial manner
  • Replacing sanctions with cooperation
  • Turning "problem students" around

(Note: Santa Cruz is a tourist destination in the summer and accommodations are in high demand. Because of this, the hotels & motels inflate their rates! A brand new bed and breakfast Inn with an eco-conscious heart and a local flair. Rooms have beautiful private baths and amenities such as luxurious bedding, electric fireplaces, flat screen tvs, Wi-Fi, art displayed by local artist, and more. They offer a private bamboo courtyard with a gas firepit. They also offer 4 complimentary bikes. 10 minute walk through downtown Santa Cruz to workshop and 10 minute walk the other way to beach.

There are only 9 rooms here, so book immediately!

Ask for the Fred Jones rate: $119.00 without breakfast ($139.00 with breakfast, served 8-10am - (Remember, the workshop serves an extended continental breakfast each day.)

This is one of the nicer hotels in the area. It’s a full service hotel offering all the dependable Hilton amenities. It’s only 5 miles to the Civic, downtown, restaurants, and beaches. (a very short hop on the freeway - a car is needed)

This is a budget motel, not offering the same amenities as a Hilton, but has been recently remodeled and is very scenically located on active West Cliff Dr. It’s just steps to the beach, restaurants, and about 1 mile to the Civic downtown.

Airport Options

The closest airport is San Jose International. The drive is 45 minutes from the airport to Santa Cruz. The San Francisco International Airport is about a 90 minute drive.

Parking at the Workshop

Parking in downtown Santa Cruz will have you feeding meters during breaks if you don't find the surrounding parking lots. Here is a link to the parking options in downtown Santa Cruz.

A $100.00 per person fee will be assessed for no-shows or cancellations
within one week prior to the conference, to cover our catering costs.

NOTE: You will receive a map with directions and additional conference information two weeks prior to the conference. Please contact us with an email address you access during the summer and a home address so we can ensure you get this information. If you haven't received this map one week prior to the conference, please contact us during the workweek.
